The Diamond was an £81 million project that began in the Autumn of 2013 by the contractors 'Balfour Beatty' and was completed on Monday the 28th of September 2015. The building was designed with engineering in mind, containing specialist teaching facilities such as lecture theatres, computer rooms, laboratories, clean rooms and group study areas. The Diamond is a hub on the University campus, with thousands of students in there at a time, offering over 1000 study spaces and 24 hour access for all University students and staff.

It took twelve architects many many hours of work to bring this project together and in doing so, they have not just created a fantastic building for the people of the University, it also contains many features that make it more environmentally friendly. The glass windows on the exterior along with galvanised steel sheets have all been recycled, it also has many sensors throughout allowing for the heating to only need to kick in when there are people in there and it is cold enough. Along with these, the Diamond also harvests rainwater and contains a naturally ventialated atrium.
